Richard Stoney of Crew Carolina, LLC (Carolina’s and The Boathouse) and Keith Jones of Southend Brewery have partnered up to open Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar on the corner of East Bay and Cumberland Street. Originally called Wragg Alley, Amen Street ran between East Bay and Mott Street (now State). According to traditional lore it was called Amen Street because “Amens” could be heard from the neighborhood churches. Saida and I decided to check it out today since it is right down the street from our office. The interior is open and inviting and we loved the nifty chandeliers made of oyster shells. Saida had the Fried Green Tomato and Shrimp Salad appetizer which was very tasty and perfect for a light appetite. I had the Hot Shrimp and Crab Sandwich which melted in my mouth! We shared an order of Hush Puppies, vowing to only try one a piece…we ate them all! 15 more minutes on the treadmill tonight! The Red Velvet Cake looked divine but we will have to save room for that next time.
Stop by and see for yourself why this is a fun addition to the French Quarter.
