Property taxes and property tax reform are on the minds of many Charlestonians. “Why are our taxes so high?” we hear everywhere we go. South Carolina’s legislators are in the process of creating property tax reform that will help ease the burden on homeowners, particularly those who have bought in recent years, and those entities that benefit from tax money, i.e. schools and government. It’s a continuing struggle and the S.C. Association of Realtors thinks that the most recent legislative proposal didn’t go far enough in helping business and homeowners.
